Baby cats!

As faithful readers might recall, we lost our darling old cat, Lucy, in March, just a month shy of her 21st birthday (and damn, we were getting all ready to take her out for a night of tequila shots).

As hard as that was, I knew I'd be sucked into pet ownership again before long, inevitable heartbreak and all. We looked at the shelter and the foster home's offerings a couple of times before we finally picked out two littermates this week and brought them home.

The black one, Stella, is a tubby little ball of energy. The calico, Pip (short for Pipsqueak--aka Pippa, Pippi, Pipperoo, The Pipster) is a little less rowdy, since she still has a bit of a cold. But we're loving having them around...even if it is odd to have cats who actually jump and can hear!

Hey, congratulations! They're so *teeny*, but adorable! We actually filled out a form to adopt a kitten ourselves this weekend, but they appear to be doing a full background check or something before approving us. We'll see!

Multiple cats are the way to go, imho (please remember that I'm trying to get people to say "imho" like they say scuba, though in a different context).

It's great to watch them interact. We have three cats and one dog; I've considered adding another cat, since kittens are obviously so cute, but then the balance of power would shift in their favor, and we can't have that, can we?

Congrats! I think Lucy would be bemused at the sight of those two romping around your home! I hope they aren't proving too much of a challenge. Just remember, they make babies cute for a reason!

*Be*mused is right--Lucy definitely wouldn't be *am*used by the kittens. Tom & I have speculated that she'd be thinking "Little punks...youth is wasted on the young!"--or something equally curmudgeonly.
